Thompson Mulholland Confirmation

My grandfather, Thompson Mulholland, of Ballymacpeake, Eden, Portglenone, got confirmed in Kilrea Parish Church – aka St. Patrick’s Church of Ireland – on Tuesday afternoon 2nd May 1911.

Five days later, on Sunday 7th May 1911, Tommy (as he was known) took his first Holy Communion.  He was 14 years old.

The annual confirmation service encompassed three parishes – Kilrea, Tamlaght O’Crilly Upper and Tamlaght O’Crilly Lower.  In this era, the early 1900s, there were roughly 60 young people confirmed annually at the service.
